INITIATIVES:

MODEL I - COLLEGE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

  • 8:30 – 2:30 Classes of 2003-2011, 2012, 2013
  • Certified Math/ELA/Science teachers only; 10:1 ratio, 100 students, 3.5 hours of academics and 2.5 hours of internship
  • 11 college and community locations throughout Worcester
  • Students complete Work Based Learning Plan & Career Passports
  • Students earn 1 credit (elective or academic) after 49 hours
  • Students paid $8/hour for 2 hour internship
  • Eligibility:
    • Not yet passed 10 grade Math/ELA/Science MCAS.
    • Never taken exam and is 16+.

MODEL II - HIGH SCHOOLS

  • Classes of 2013 - 2015 for ELA & Math & Science
  • 8:00 – 12:00 3.5 hours of academics in Math, ELA or Science
  • 450 students 10:1 ratio
  • 19 days; Schools: Burncoat, North, South, Worcester Technical, Doherty, Claremont, Alternative, Gerald Creamer Center
  • Students earn 1 credit (elective or academic) after 49 hours
  • Eligibility:
    • If a student has taken the 10th grade test in ELA or Mathematics and received a failing score (under 220), they are eligible for the program, but should be offered the CCC program first.
    • If a student has not yet taken the 10th grade test in ELA or Mathematics and received a Needs Improvement or Warning score (under 240) on the 7th or 8th grade test, they are eligible for the program.
    • If a student has not yet passed the Science exam (under 220), they are eligible for the program.

MODEL III - EARLY COLLEGE/CAREER READINESS TRANSITION PROGRAM

  • Students who have completed 8th grade and are MCAS eligible
  • 60 students are invited to attend this early college/career readiness transition program. Students will begin each week with a field trip to a college/business site. The rest of the week students will rotate through a ELA, Math, Biology and AVID class, while connecting the experience they had on the field trip to their studies.
